An Exciting Month for Ron Sexsmith and Love Shines

March 9, 2011 / Love Shines

For those of you not familiar with Ron Sexsmith, he is considered by many musicians and music fans to be a Canadian treasure with a rare gift and talent for song writing.  Despite this, Ron is also considered to be one of the unsung heroes and hidden talents on the music scene.

Love Shines, the documentary, follows Canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith as he lays everything on the line to make a hit album.  The curtain is pulled back for a rare glimpse inside the studio process as Sexsmith teams up with legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe).  But will this be enough?  Sexsmith dreams of emerging with a song that achieves commercial radio play, but the journey with Rock also turns introspective.  Through a series of flashbacks the songwriter confronts the meaning of success, weighing the lure of stardom against the humble beginnings that sparked the ‘birth’ of his songs.  Punctuated by Super 8 footage chronicling the early years, an extraordinary playlist and a stellar cast featuring Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Feist, Kiefer Sutherland and Daniel Lanois, Love Shines is a journey to the heart and soul of what songwriting is truly about.

We've been having an exciting month with Ron Sexsmith and our documentary on him, Love Shines!

It all started with Ron releasing his latest album, Long Player Late Bloomer, last week.  It was the making of this album that the documentary Love Shines was filmed around.  We are rather partial to the songs featured here, but so it would seem are others, getting great reviews in the Globe and Mail and the Huffington Post, amoungst others.  Then Ron started trending on twitter in the UK and Worldwide on Friday night.  Before the night was over he was the #1 Bestseller on the UK Amazon Indie Charts and reached as high as the #2 Bestseller overall on the UK Amazon Charts.  By Sunday night, Ron was a new addition to the British Album Charts sitting at #48 for combined physical and digital sales, and #40 in the UK Download Charts.

Both Ron Sexsmith and Director Douglas Arrowsmith will be in attendance at SXSW, along with Producer Trevor Hodgson and Executive Producer Audrey Mehler.
